4020 3pt Hitch Issue

I have noticed that my early model 4020 will not pick up a bale of hay. It will operate properly without a load, however, with a load it will only go up about half way. I have replaced the cable that runs from the rockshaft to the lever on the dash. As mentioned, when there is not a load on the 3 pt, it functions properly, however, whenever I stab a bale, it only goes up about half way. I have replaced filter and fluid. The load lever is in the D position. I have fought this for some time now. Thanks in advance.

Ditto on setting lever under seat in "D". With 3 pt fully raised how long will it stay up after engine is stopped? It's possible the rockshaft piston seal or thermal relief valve has failed. Rockshaft piston seal can be replaced by removing cap that 3 pt center link transport hook attaches to.

The hitch will slowly drop with the tractor off. It probably falls all the way down within 30 minutes after the tractor engine has been turned off. I will check the draft position again.

Our hitch was drifting down and the thermal relief valve accessible from the rear was leaking.
Make sure you do the adjustment process from the service manual. This involves going in the rear opening with a socket.

And make sure you weld the socket to the extention or tape it very well. A friend lost his and had to remove the rockshaft housing to get it out. Tom
