I just got a 72 4020 gas and a guy down the road has motor parts, block, crank, gov, pistons, sleeves. How can I tell if these parts would work on mine? My concerns is that it maybe an older motor and may be different parts. Also if it will work what should I except to pay? Thanks!

Travis

There are serial number breaks on some parts, and some are the same. You can really light up a 4020 with higher compression pistons, might want to think about that.

Here is a pic. Any guess on year?

(quoted from post at 14:36:13 01/25/15) R26060 -I'm Thinking is a late 4010 gas block, A 302ci. or a 341ci. /If I'm reading JD parts right ....

I agree that it's probably a 4010 block but the model # on the serial number plate would help narrow it down.

I have a complete 4020 lpg engine that ran great when I took it out . I think you could put your carb and manifold and be good to go 400.00 if you are interested . sw. pa.

There was no serial number plate. The numbers in the picture was the only numbers I could find. There was a number stamped 31.

Yeah I'm sure it's a 72 we just came home with it yesterday. Sorry but this one will be on the farm for quite some time .

You can tell if it's a 4010 block quick if it has only 2 bolts in the front side frame pad...4020's have 4..

It would look good surrounded by my 71 4000 d,72 4000d,72 3020d ps,63 4010d, 68 4020d,and my ever growing herd of 73 4230d,2 77 4230D

Even without the casting number you can tell it is an early engine by the weep holes in the block. Later engines did not have these. Mike
