Just show up at the parts counter with the proper numbers . Parts manual is online in the JD web site. The no parts or service story started in the 80's and 90's .when US dealers were loosing business to tractor jockeys .bringing 70 cent on the dollar Canadian/European tractors into the US cheap. Intended use for the tractor? Iirc the earlier 3130 had a transmission top shaft problem that was upgraded on the 3040/3140. It's a 30 year old tractor so expect anything. Use a chemical test strip and test the coolant if the corosion inhibitor is still active. If ignored and depleted the wet sleeves could be cavitated. Pull the transmission oil screen and filter. The occasional large shaving isn't so bad. Fine ground up grey metal is very bad. Brakes are gone and some clown kept using the tractor. Adding bargain brand transmission oil can ruin the brakes. |
