I will try the spring. I am going to call the service manager tomorrow to ask about the detent parts being replaced. I would think they would have which makes me think it is more of an adjustment thing. There is an adjustment for the lever to the shift plate in the console? |

| The linkage adjustment is a turn buckle on the shift rod, to get it right you need to feel it in gear then adjust the rod to where it matches up with the shift plate, but the shift plate is for placement not to hold it in gear. |

| I talked to the service manager this morning. They put in all new parts including the cam and the ball detents. I am going to buy the spring to put on the shift linkage. He said to shim the spring for the ball detent, so I will try that. Thanks guys for your help. |

| Don't beat yourself up Jim,,I've been into 3 this month, and one waiting to come in...I know linkage "can" be the problem some times with these not staying in the ranges,,,but "most" of the time it's some thing going on with the bottom shaft area, worn snap ring grooves, worn shift collars/gears,end play issues, and such...but you need to prove the "on top" stuff first... |

After you stated incorrect photo I thought to myself " what was I thinking" as that drum shifter goes on a syncronizer and not associated with A-B-C-D. |

| You have been doing good at posting the break down pics,,I have been up to my neck with transmissions lately, so I'm staying "fresh" on them....got a 4020 down now for a top shaft re-build..will be going back together with it today.. |

| Since you mentioned I always thought it was odd back when I was a dealer service manager that repair jobs come in groups of engines then maybe trans then maybe hyd's and so on. |
