Looking at 4040 HFWA 700 miles away owner sent pictures [no serial#] and everything looks fine except it should have a 404 and he says it has a factory turbocharged motor making me think 359T.I cant tell from pictures but could it be a European. If so does that hurt its value? He will be back to his ranch this weekend so I can get serial# then. |

Looks like a Dubuque oil filter and the intake manifold on the starboard side. Take the part numbers to your JD dealer and the parts will appear. During the 1980's and 90's many Canadian tractors were jockeyed state side when the dollar fell into the 60 cent range. Many US dealers were loosing sales and started the "no parts for imports " story.

Ask if it has a parking brake? I think that all the European tractors did.My friend has a 4255 that has the parking brake.

Do the pictures show the 3pt hitch or the very frt of the tractor?? I'll bet it's a 4040 built for European sales. I wonder if it's a 4040S?

I"am thinking a fair amount of 4040S were sold in Canada in late 82" to 84"; 4050 were already on dealer lot in US... serial # could be over 12,000...

Wasnt the 4050 the tractor that could have either engine? The first half (oldest ones) had a waterloo engine and the later (new ones) had the dubuque engines. I know there was one model produced that way, just not sure which one it was.
