matthies 01-15-2013 19:17:26 173.224.23.197 Report to Moderator	A guy asked me to look at his old 7520, he doesn't have the high side of the transmission. The tractor has the eight speed sycro, low and reverse works fine. I took the top cover off thinking something was wrong with the cam/rollers. That looks fine, but when you shift to the high side I can spin the top shaft with no resistance(by hand), low and reverse locks the shafts together like it should be. I looked at the parts of the top shaft and think the sycros or the drum teeth are gone. I didn't drain the trans and the drum looked fine what I could see of it. I've done a complete trans in 4430s and 4020's but its been a couple years and don't know anything on 7520's and can you split them right in front of the trans or do you take the pivot pins out? thanks chris [Reply]   [No Email]

Tim S 01-16-2013 03:50:30 75.49.13.105 Report to Moderator	Re: 7520 4wd trans in reply to matthies, 01-15-2013 19:17:26   Yes, these are the right answers for splitting it, check A&I for some of the parts a big savings for parts that are the same as first line Deere, you need to ask the dealer parts rep to check, all you need to do is put an "A_" in front of the number, you can do it yourself on Deere parts site...You can jack one front wheel up to let it spin free to help with the split, instead of dropping the front shaft..every thing you don't take off,,you don't have to put back on... Yes, if I remember correctly, you split it between the trans housing & transfer case. Like other new gen tractors, you must remove the rockshaft housing & trans pump to move the upper shaft far enough back to lift the front of the upper shaft, with the syncronizers up & out. I also had to remove the front drive shaft to allow the 2 halves to roll apart. I blocked the front 1/2 under the hinge area & rolled the back half away with the rear part of a standard splitting stand. I took the complete upper shaft to my local JD dealer & had them rebuild the syncros, as I did not have the special tools to do this. If I remember right, I had over $1400 in my hands when I left the dealership.-- And this was 20yrs ago--no telling what it will cost now!!!! [Reply]  [No Email]
minnemoman 01-15-2013 20:21:25 69.89.205.141 Report to Moderator	Re: 7520 4wd trans in reply to matthies, 01-15-2013 19:17:26   I am not shure about the coller I would put mony on the teeth being sripted off or ware and not moving enuf to engage. as far as splitting you need to split it at the frunt of the trans and leave the pivit alone but this would be the time to check the pivit pins for where good luck and be safe :) [Reply]  [No Email]
