I have two 4020s, one is a synchro, one a powershift. The synchro has this 4 1/2 inch wide tank hooked onto the transmission oil cooler in front of the radiator. The powershift does not have this tank. I'm unsure what this tank is used for. The left side air filter is removed in this picture. Thank you for your help! |

| | The hydraulic reservoir tank is used on the synchro shift tractors to hold a supply of oil in reserve for the main hydraulic pump in addition to the oil contained in the oil cooler, especially when the foot clutch is depressed and the transmission pump (that supplies oil to the main hydraulic pump)is NOT operating. The transmission pump operates continuously on the hydro tractors, even when the "clutch" is depressed, so the added oil reserve capacity of the reservoir tank isn"t needed. Clear as mud? |

| On the syncro when the clutch is pushed down the transmission pump stops pumping with that tank you would still have power steering and hydraulics for a limited time without that tank you wouldn't Powershift the transmission pump still pumps with the pedal down |

| I think it is to keep the hydraulic fluid warm since the synchro range won't warm it up very much most of the time. |
