The 4020 was in the shop getting ready to be torn down. We needed to spread a buggy of fertilizer, so took it out once more. It lugged down, threw fire out the exhaust, then had tons of blowby right at the end.

I think it is time.

For the price and peace of mind, the Deere kits are great. They usually have any upgrades and all the parts you need in one box, including the right gaskets. Last one I bought had everything but new rods, and we used the old ones. Almost as good as a new piece of iron.

Check the oil pump drive gear, sounds like the teeth just sheared off. This throws the inj. pump out of time .

Tim, That is my guess also, it has been worked hard all its life and is at 9000 hours.

Where would you recommend we get pistons and sleeves from?

Its always makes me feel a little better to do a tear down on something that there is no dought it needs it.Rather than having heard strange noises or something like that.Hope you have fun might as well make the best of it.Like my Grandfather would tell me take your time and do a good job. Its so satifying when she fires back up.Let us know what you find when you get into it.Love those 4020's
