2955's are basically superb tractors. I've had no problems with my 3055's,same basic machine. Nevertheless as others have said used on a loader the clutch could be worn. You could go for it but before that inspect it carefully.

A 2955 has a dry clutch,my local dealer always tried to talk someone into the larger size with the perma-clutch.Said they had to many problems with those tractors in that catorgory. A 4055 would be the model to look for in that age group. Might be more tractor than you need or want to pay for. However one clutch problem.Where you had to split the tractor would pay for the step up.A loader is hard on clutches, since that 2955 has a loader on it already, that would be a strike against it in my mind.Granted the mighty 4020 has a dry cluch also, but these tractors are set up different. It might be best to keep looking.Even though the price seems ok,being the loader goes with it.Just my 2 cents.

Depends on the operator. Dad's 2355 loader tractor still has the factor clutch at 8000+ hours with lots of material left. My Uncle ruined the clutch in the 1640 under 4000hrs.

Typically not a good loader tractor! If You are going to put it in gear, & keep going then great. The clutch in a dry clutch. Keep going both directions very much, & You may need to service the clutch more than You might like; but not guaranteed.

Larry, In my opinion these were a pretty good tractor. I can speak from both the user and repair side of the fence. My Dad owned two of these with cabs brand new. I really didn’t think he would like them when he got the first one, next thing I know he bought another one. Didn't have any problems. He used mostly for livestock operation pulling wagons and farm chores. Light field work. Very fuel efficient. Not the horror story a 2840 was. 2955 had a TSS transmission and a different charge hydraulic system. The 2955 was similar to the 2940. Both used the proven 359 engine. He later upgraded for two 7210’s.

IMHO 2955's were better than 2940's. The JD SGB(cab) tractors could also have an option of a hyd 2 speed(hi-lo) that was controlled by shifting one of the trans control levers side to side giving tractor 16 speeds instead of 8 speeds.
