Here we go..Install a gauge into hlr test port..shift 4 speed trans between 3rd and 4th..There is a narrow neutral in there.. Lock down brake pedal.. Remove both floorboards. Under each floorboard you will find large rubber plugs in the clutch housing.. The one on the right is the pressure regulating valve.. The one on the left is the speed of shift/ pressure adjustment..The clutch pedal "free-play" should be 3 and 3/4" from top of pedal to the point the clutch fingers contact the throw-out bearing.. This adjustment is accomplished from the vertical bolt next to the clutch pedal.. Start the machine with brake locked down and 4 speed in neutral..HLR in neutral.. Run the engine at about 1000 to 1200 rpms.. Watch the gauge when shifting the HLR lever in all 3 ranges.. Are all ranges about the same pressures?? [ 150-165 lbs]If so , take a ratchet with a 1/2" deep socket and short extension into the hole on the left [ by clutch pedal]..Watch the gauge while turning the nut down [clockwise].. Is the pressure going up ?? If so.... Run it up to the maximum pressure where the gauge just starts to drop off.. If you just touch the pedal and the gauge goes up about 5 lbs, you're real close to that sweet spot you need to be at..If the high to reverse shift is too quick, turn that adjustment slightly clockwise.. By the same token, you don"t want that shift too slow.. This causes slippage and transmission heat..When you make the high to reverse shift , the machine should just pull you off the seatback at wide open throttle in 2nd gear without touching the clutch pedal during shift..The plug under your right foot is the pressure adjustment if you cannot get 150-165 lbs..I shim this valve with pennies... Yup.. Each penny is good for about 15 lbs..I grease them into the cap of the plug..Let me know if any other help is needed..If no pressure increse is noted..... The rollpin at the bottom of the vertical speed if shift adjustment might have broken.. Roy [Reply]  [No Email]
