if you where to put a head on a 466 block (thats out of a 4440) which one would you use. i know most say 55 series, but are they all the same? and what about the 50 series heads, are they any better then the 40 series? other than the head, what else do you need to make a diffrent head work, like push rods, ect? want to tinker around pulling. i new at this though. thanks for the help |

What are you wanting to do with it? If it's going to be stock or near stock, there's no sense dropping the cash on the 55-series parts.

in my neck of the woods there are a lot of good running red tractors. with our general rules, farm stock, and some places hot farm) i want to push them to the limit like everyone else. at the same time i like to tinker with my tractor, like attend plow days, make hay and i do a lot of hay rides. last year in the heavier classes i did well, but need more. i'm looking for the 500 h.p range. i am not looking to biuld a pure hot farm tractor.

At that performance level, the 55-series head is probably worth the investment. Not only do they have the better flowing ports but I believe they're also thicker and more rigid as well. Good luck with your project. Those Binders are pretty easy and cheap to hot-rod, but in my opinion, it makes more sense to put money into a tractor that's good for something besides pulling, a Deeres win that contest hands down.

55 series head flows the best put of all of them. Along with the head you should put on the 55 series exhaust and intake manifolds which flow better as well. A turbo and cam from a 55 would another good mod to look into. I think the only thing you will run into with all of this you will need to find a different upper water pipe or modify the one you have. Put a front fuel tank on with a meth injection system hidden inside or an LP bottle in the intake and your good to go :D
