I have new pts,condenser,plugs,rotor,cap,& plug wires. The 50 is only firing on the rt cylinder. it idles on the one cylinder. Starts right up,but when I take off the plug wire at the distrib for the left side nothing changes,when I unplug the right plug at the distrib she dies. What am I missing? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks

My money is on the carb. You have a dual throat carb, one for each cylinder. I've experienced something similar..carb needed cleaning/rebuilding.

Had a similar problem with "Rusty" one of our 51 MTs.

All new electrics, but only running on one cylinder.

Checked the mechanical and found a spring was broken on the intake valve.

Raining today so will check valve adjustment & do a compresion ck & coil ck over the week-end, Thanks everyone for now. If anyone has any more suggestions please respond also

I'd do a compression test to see where your at.

Valve adjustment couldn't hurt either.

Can you get any change by adjusting the carb. idle needles ?

Someone brought an A to me that had that problem. After much head scratching I found the valve lash backed away on a valve. Probably isn't the problem in your case but it's a possibility. Jim

It was doing the same thing even before I put in all the new parts? Is the problem possibly with the distrb needing to be re-built?

Switch the plugs and see if the problem moves to the other side. If it doesn't, I'd suspect a bad coil.
