I just purchased this tractor and the FEL valve does not hold in the bucket position. Is this a throw away valve, will a O ring kit help, do they have line locks, if not can they be installed. I have never had a JD FEL cylinder leak, but there may be a first time. Thanks for any suggestions.

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

I have a 4310 with a 420 loader and have had drifting on both the boom and bucket cylinders. I raised the loader and bucket and disconnected the hoses, letting the cylinders hang against the trapped fluid. The boom stayed up and bucket drifted down. I figured this meant the the fluid was walking across the piston seal, so I repaired that. I resealed the boom cyliners at the same time. The bucket still drifts a little during operation, which makes me think that I should look into the check valves next. However, the drift is so slight it's not a major priority right now. I'm just spoiled because my old 70D stays up for months and never, and I mean never drifts. I used to park the raised 45 loader bucket over the work bench I had so much confidence in the old Powr-Trol.

If you get one function working, like I have with my boom, I should swap the boom ports for the bucket ports, and I move the drift to the boom, I'll know it is valve related.

Bucket not staying where set could be the cylinder(s) or valve leaking. a leaking "spool valve" allowing a cylinder to move can only be repaired by complete valve replacement(no o-ring will solve problem). You could install a ball valve to block oil if spool valve was at fault. The 4200 parts catalog lists this on hyd valve which could be the problem.

I presume you mean that it won't hold over a long period of time in the bucket-raised position. I'm sure these little tractors have spool-type hydraulic valves with no check valves. They do leak down slowly - nature of the beast. Larger JD tractors have poppet type hydraulic valves which do not allow leak down.
