Can someone start me off in the right direction? From a cold or warm start I can't seem to get enough rpm's to fire off the old diesel. I have cleaned cables and replaced battery with one with factory specs. I have to have a fully charged battery and jumper cable help to start it up. |

| Thanks for everyone's help. I did reposition the battery ground cable away from the battery box to the starter mounting bolt and that helped. I will try some of the other suggestions later this week. |

| The pump is still in stroke and slows cranking. If you rock the steering wheel back and forth often this lets the motor crank faster. |

| I just use a pair of battery cables and hook one end to the battery positive and the other to starter solenoid and that will tell you quick if it starts you have a bad cable you can do the same with the ground |

| | The hydraulic pump is usually the issue when the tractor is warm and won't crank fast. Kind of rare for that to be a problem when cold though - unless you've got a substantial internal hydraulic leak. Take a voltage reading with one lead at the big post on the starter solenoid and the other held to the starter ground. It if drops below 9.5 volts while cranking - you've probably got a bad connection with one of the cables - or bad solenoid contacts - or brushes in the starter worn down. The sure easy and fast way to test is with a portable carbon-pile load tester. Just stick it on the big post of the solenoid and to ground and dial it up to 300 amps while reading voltage. If you cannot stay above 9 volts - the starter isn't getting enough battery power. If it does - then the engine is turning too hard (hydraulic pump most likely). |

| First thing to do is relocate the battery ground cable connection from battery box to engine block or starter mounting bolt if that's not already been done. 2nd thing would be to install a hyd pump de-stroking screw(AR38225 parts key #4) and use it. |
