I am needing to replace a motor min a JD 2010W (industrial loader/backhoe) I think I want to stay with the gas. Is there any JD engine that will swap with this engine? Or do I need to just find a decent running 2010 tractor?

Wratchet, do what you think needs to be done. You know your business better than anyone. Shiny paint doesn't pay bills when its sitting around.

You might post over on the Combines and Harvesters section to see if any one knows where you might find an early JD 45 engine as turklilley says. An earl one with a flat belt should be 2010 later ones used a 180 engine with a V belt which was a 2020 or 2510. Just beware that a 1010 engine will bolt up to the bell housing, I know that from having bought a 2010 backhoe with one in it .. If the tag is missing you wont be able to tell the difference with out pulling the head and measuring the piston..

This is the time to sit down with a pencil and paper. And figure short term and long term costs along with reliability . Of dealing with the double whammy of both being the dreaded 2010 and being a half century old machine. Vs looking at something other than a 2010.

Combine the current income from selling the 2010 and what the 2010 repair bill. Those thousands of $$$ will go some distance into another running machine.

Ok I found a good running 2010 for $1500, still, the cost of hauling 2-300 if I haul, swapping out, my labor is cheap. Finished product less then $4000. Your point is valid. But, I drove nothing but 10 yr old pickups for 40 yrs and never spent the cost of a new one on all combined? If I could find a decent running one for <=$ 7500 that would probably be best way. I will use it about 100 hrs for first 2-3 months then only a couple hrs per month after. Cost of a new one is prohibitive.
Thanks for the pen/paper and it is a consideration. I have a couple of months before I must have the backhoe. Or, I could rent one for about $ 850 a week x 8 =$ 6800 but would still need one at cost of 235/day about once a month?

I've seen owners of old vehicles with mis-matched tires, cracked windshield, no working AC, busted power windows, body dents or rust holes and leaking exhaust. And they don't see anything that needs repairing.
Depends on your standards on how much it costs to run an old vehicle.
Area of the country too. Try driving and servicing a 10+ year old vehicle in the salt belt.
Lets consider miles driven per year too.
Around here a 10yr old vehicle is rusting through unless thoroughly oiled every year. Brake calipers are seized every 2-3 years. anything you try to wrench is rusted solid or rusting away.
After 10,12 and by 15 yrs for certain. It's cheaper here to make payments on a new vehicle than it is to service an old clunk.

I'm going way off topic but where do you live at buick? Sounds about like my state. If you've got something 10 years or older it better have been garage kept AND oiled. My 99 Grand Voyager would have a lot of life left if it was not so rusty. Its still safe to drive but I would not like it for a daily driver.
