I tried for a while and failed. Do I have to take the gas tank off or amp gauge out to get in there better? Thanks for any help. [Reply]   [No Email]

My guess is your's was drilled out to replace it cause they coulden't get to that jam nut short of dissmanteling everything. One of mine had that problem and the previous owner just put a new cable in the all fuel hole. It was years before I realized it was in the wrong place & it's still there. I don't see any way of getting in there short of raising the fuel tank and probably removing the guage also. I would remove the battery and right side cover. The oil pipe is in the way too but a younger fellow might be able to work around that. [Reply]  [No Email]

There is a 1957 420 at work currently and I looked at it and the choke cable on it is threaded into dash. My M is a 1950. [Reply]  [No Email]

I couldn't get my fat hand in there. I unbolted the two back gas tank bolts at the pedestal. I loosened the fronts but did not take them off. I made sure to shut the fuel off at the tank as I still had some in there but luckily not a full tank. I lifted the tank just enough to get my hand in there so as not to disturb the fuel line or anything else. It was still a pain but gave me the extra inch or two I needed. [Reply]  [No Email]
