JohnDeereJimOhio 10-08-2012 05:37:03 204.9.147.16 Report to Moderator	I know this topic has been covered many times but just looking for a few other ideas. I am re-doing my 51 GW and got the rim and tire off yesterday. However I can not get the hub and center to move. I have been appling lube to it for several months off and on and I tried the heat and beat method. I was thinking about taking a thick piece of channel and setting it across the end of the axel and two pieces of all thread and making a puller so it has constant pressure. My dad recomended a porta-power however I dont want to put that pressure on the rear end and crack the casting.... What do you guys think? I have also spun the tire fast and then hit the brake to try and bust loose the hub.. Anyother ideas will be appriciated. [Reply]   [No Email]

I will add one thing after you have pressure on the collar, find a piece of round that will go thru the clamp collar bore and with a sledge give it couple good wacks, a little vibration goes a long way in these cases. machinery-man 10-08-2012 11:10:56 98.93.72.12 Report to Moderator	Re: Trouble pulling Hubs off a John Deere G in reply to JohnDeereJimOhio, 10-08-2012 05:37:03   Friends of mine have made those heavy plate pullers, however I've had better luck with wire brushing with a drill buffing up the axles as close to the collar as possible. Then use a vibarting type chisel trying to get the collar to jar out the crud under it and get it to move back and forth a small amount and keep increasing the movement and you will get it over the cleaned area and it will slip off by hand....you have to removed the compression collar. Now having said that you might find in going back that you will have a hard time keeping it tight. Some put was paper under the collar. [Reply]  [No Email]

Once it started moving in, it was then easier to begin working it off the axle using the puller. [Reply]  [No Email]

If you're gonna make one use square head set screws for the theaded rods instead of all thread. All thread is too soft. Square heads come up to 10 or 12 inches long. I'll try to get some pics loaded. I counted the splines of the hubs I have and I think they're for an A. One might be for a G. I think the splines on the pulling tractor axel is 14 but I'll count them again. RW [Reply]  [No Email]
Bob Collins 10-08-2012 06:51:38 50.33.68.71 Report to Moderator	Re: Trouble pulling Hubs off a John Deere G in reply to JohnDeereJimOhio, 10-08-2012 05:37:03   You would be better off using three sticks of all-thread and using the hub clamp on the outer end and the 3 holes in the hub. The heavy channel or plate goes against the end of the axle, as you said. It will be much more stable and the extra threaded rod will be needed, we are talking a lot of force involved. Good luck.
