ib 09-22-2012 03:44:56 76.235.196.178 Report to Moderator	Gentleman, I put a new 12 volt coil on, one that states do not use external resistor. Removed the external resistor and old coil. Connected wires correctly without resistor. Now the tractor will not stay running. Cranks over good, just will not stay running. I can put a jumper wire between - post on battery and - post on coil and the tractor will continue to start/run, like normal. What do you think i am doing wrong and how can i correct this? Tom OConnor 09-22-2012 12:55:44 98.209.243.62 Report to Moderator	Re: John Deere 530 in reply to ib, 09-22-2012 03:44:56   There is a resistor back of the dash on the right side of all of the Waterloo "30" series gas models that sometimes fail. Change this resistor and it will run perfectly. It is about half inch wide and two to three inches long and is available at John Deere parts. The wire on the top end goes to the third post on the starter button and the other wire goes to the coil. You can temporarily jump from one end to the other of this resistor and make it run but to fix the problem you need the new part. I am sure that this will cure the problem that you describe. 34gpa 09-22-2012 07:49:45 75.88.78.24 Report to Moderator	Re: John Deere 530 in reply to ib, 09-22-2012 03:44:56   You say you did not remove any wires,then you should have 2 ends of them hooked to the coil,if not you dont have it wired right,or it was miswired before you got it.you really only need one,but you had to of done something with the ends from before or you would have a hot wire not hooked to any thing. Best thing would be to get a wiring diagram and study it till you understand what you did wrong. I'm betting you hooked up the wire from the pushbutton and it only give juice when it is pushed,so it starts then quits. [Reply]  [No Email]

Go back over your wiring if that's the case. Sounds like you may have disconnected the hot ignition wire from the switch, and are trying to run it on the bypass circuit from the starter solenoid. When you let up on the starter button, the bypass circuit opens and the engine dies. I hope it's that simple to fix. And cheap! Paul [Reply]  [No Email]
