I have a 14T baler that has a few small isues and have found some parts are are hard to find. After running an ad on Craigs List I found a guy that had two 14T balers - one he used the other was his parts baler. He has left them both sitting outside the last couple years - the one he used started having problems with one knotter. I bought them both for $250.

I plan on stripping the knotters, needles and a few pickup teeth off the "parts baler" and keeping the other one whole. I plan on letting the knotters on the parts baler (sitting outside the longest) soak in a couple quarts of ATF to make sure they are loose. Whats the fastest way to pull the knotters (sawzall?)? Any other specific parts I might want to pull?

The parts baler lost time in a spectaular fashion - the feeding fork crashed into the plunger stopping the baler on a dime, the gear box is shot, the fly wheel is loose, the PTO shaft is twisted off (I'm sure the clutch is toast too), the plunger is crushed, somehow the needles were not involved.

What does one of these weigh? After getting those few parts off I'll haul the "parts" baler to the scrapper.

You will want to save the needle lift shaft that goes thru both knotters. A sawzall would destroy it if you removed the knotters that way.

What's the "easy" way to remove the shaft (looking at it is why I thought of a sawzall)?

Wouldn't I be able to use the existing shaft on the working baler?
