Think I'll put my roll a matic back under my JD 4000 when I can get it in the shop. Also would like input from you guys about running a lock on it. I don't have the lock but thinking about hunting one. My ROM is the 4 bolt heavy one. So is a lock good or bad and why. Where would you find one if I decide to use one. Thanks for you help.

[quote="Raltn"](quoted from post at 11:18:52 09/15/12) here's a pic, is it HD or medium? Thanks

Heavy duty I think but heavy duty knuckles will be (A) R.H. (MARKED R30387) & (A) L.H. (MARKED R30388)

Really not much of an advantage to run a lock unless you are straddling beds or ridges. That is what the lock was designed for. Otherwise, let the ROM do it's thing. It was a tremendous advantage over the conventional front end. Mike

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

We had a 4010 WITH the ROM, and a 3020 WITHOUT the ROM. Dad owned both those tractors at the same time, and honestly, niether of us could notice any difference in how they handled or rode.

The roll-a-matic made more of a difference on old 2 cylinders with out power steering,,and bouncing in and out of plow furrows. The modern power steering absorbed more of the "wheel Kick"..

Raltn,
I believe the "lock" was used on the Roll-a-Matic
only when using a Lister. It helped keep the front wheels up on the ridge.

Four bolts in a rectangle is the heavy one. If in a square, it is not the heavy one, but intermediate.

That is the HD version. The four bolts are in a rectangle pattern.

Just advertise on here, they should pop up, they are not that rare. We have a couple that we use on lighter tractors. Would think maybe the 4000 might be a little heavy for one under normal working cond every day.
