Hi Guys, I'm having some problems with my A which is idling way too fast. The carb was rebuilt by Roberts and it has new rings, valves, and a reground crank. The engine is very tight and difficult to start by hand, but when pulled it starts fine. But, here's my problem,...With the throttle almost closed I adjusted the idle screw to the smoothest idle, any more in or out and it starts running slower and rougher, but it's too fast. If I close the throttle even a fraction more, the engine just dies. What's going on, and how do I fix it? Thanks, Andrus |

| | Hello,One basic thing to check is the possibility of a vacuum leak at either the intake to block mounting surface or between the carb and intake. You can spray some carb cleaner in those areas to see if it changes the symptom any. Also could be a carb problem;idle cucuit stopped up, even if it was remanned. | Also you set your idle mixture by opening it 1 1/4 turns , start tractor and warm up , pull throttle lever back wide open and start turning the screw in at 1/4 turn intervals until tractor falters or runs rough , at that point turn it back open two CLICKS (not 2 turns) Now throttle it back down and set your idle speed with linkeage screw. If still doesn't work then check for air leaks like others said. |
