What do you pay for a bore and hone for a two cylinder block (both holes). Just would like to see prices of what others are paying and what model it was for.

Back in 2003, I had to bore a JD D from .045 to .125; I couldn't find anyone to do the job as it was 6.75 dia. When I did find someone, they wanted $260 per hole to do the job. I ended up making a six fluted reamer and reamed the bore to size. The reamer weighed 20lbs. What a nice finish it put on!

More important is the machine shop is experienced in boring & honing 2 cyl Deeres. The piston rings are unlike the modern day passenger car rings. 2cyl with or without waterpump is a factor when it comes to the proper piston to cyl clearance. Your piston supplier should give you the proper clearance. The experienced shop should know the correct honing finish. On pricing Std oversize is .045, .090, .125 You cannot 1 pass bore a cyl & then finish hone. The boring price is based on how many passes the shop has to make (per cyl) to do the job right. Example .045 requires 2 passes 1 rough cut & 1 finish cut.

I usually made 3 cuts..025 then .015 then .005. The finish cut takes a different bit also.

I had a FL Kwikway. Those old 2 cyl block have some good material in them. By the time your bar went past the spark plug hole I would check & see if my rough & finish bit was still OK. We got $190.00 back in 1985 to clean, bore, hone a 2cyl Deere to .125. If they left the studs in that was a extra $30. Good Old Days !!!!!!!

I paid $1 per .001" - so a block that needed to go from stock bore to .125" cost me $125 (for both holes). This was last year in Lancaster, Ohio, with an unstyled A block, so I had a tough time finding someone with a machine that could bore that large and that deep (block is longer than styled block).
