Hi guys-I am stumped.Have a Wico C magneto on the H.I can not get it to fire.I am missing something simple here and it is driving me nuts.It has a good snap.I replaced the coil, points ,condensor, small cap and rotor. On the coil one wire goes to the points and the other wire without insulation on goes to the ground right? Can my magnets be shot?I shorted a ground wire and held it a 1/8 from the coil button and spun it and no spark?Any help sure would be appreciated. Thanks mike

There are 2 flat spring tabs on that 1st cap that need to make good contact. Also clean the points if they are new. New condenser may be bad too.

Make sure the spring on the points isn't touching the mounting screw for the points.

There is a sort of sheet metal bracket on the end of the points spring where the condenser & wires all connect with the screw that screws into the nylon nut. That bracket can very easily short the spring to ground when assembling these. Make sure this end of the spring with its little metal bracket is not touching any metal part of the frame of the mag. This will make it THINK the points are always closed and it will not spark!

It is very easy to have this happen with the C mag. I've had some sets of points where I had to bend that sheet metal bracket just to keep it from shorting to ground.

That is the very first thing I'd check.

Hope that helps.

Yep the one small insulated LV Primary coil wire goes to the points and one thats often bare is indeed case ground. To turn it over slowly by hand and expect a spark the spring impulse wind n trip assembly must be working and she will spark when the snaps/impulses NOT at hand turn speeds. Sometimes on a Wico C the points spring gets shorted to the case. A low ohm ohm meter on the points to ground should read around 0.5 to under an ohm when points are open but a short circuit when closed. If its always a short theres no spark well DUHHHHH.....

Magnets can loose strength over time and especially if the rotor was outside the case, but Id suspect the points or a short or the condensors bad for now instead of the magnet or else shes not wired right
