The 4030 was introduced in August of 1972 as the replacement for the 3020 AND 2520. How could there then be any 1973 2520's?? Also, don't always trust tractordata. I have seen many mistakes there. Mike

I am TractorData.com if there is anything wrong about that listing I will gladly correct it.

My production figures are the same as what Hain recently published in his new 20-series book from Green Magazine.

Peter, Mr. Hain's figures are not always accurate, either. The misinformation I have seen in his magazine so many times is the main reason I am no longer a subscriber. Mike

The 2520 figures are also in line with what is in the Two-Cylinder Production Log.

My Production Log says production of the 2520 ended in February of 1972. Mike

Perhaps the information in the Production Log is incomplete, and I know that can happen. I imagine production of the 20 series ended very close to this time to allow time for the changeover period to the 30 series. Mike

Don, TractorData.com say's there were a little over 6,000 total built?

http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/0/7/71-john-deere-2520.html

And Larry, I am sure a 72, diesel was a quick sell! I was just curious to see it, if not, no big deal. Dad's is a 69 gas, which they actually made less of then the diesel's. But everyone always want's the diesel's it seems!

According to my book, Official Guide, Tractors and Farm Equipment from the North American Equipment Dealers Assoc., the first number in the run in 1967 was 8958. The last number I have was 1973 starting at 23865. The 2510 series started at 1000 in 1966 and entered 1968 at 14291. I don't have an ending number for either series, but it shows a production run of at least 14,907 units assuming no number breaks. I may be wrong, but this book is pretty much a bible for dealers. While it isn't always as complete for some of the questions that are asked on here as I'd like, it's never very far off.

By the way, 67 and 68 look as if a mix of both were built, with the 8958 serial number showing as the start of the 2520 and the first unit of the year for the 2510. That may be the break for the end of the 2510 and the actual start of the 2520, but I don't know for sure. Even if the first unit was 11000, 23865 is a few more than 6000 units.

NEAEDA Guide is overlapping the 2510 and 2520. Looking at the Summer 2010 edition, it repeats the 2510 serial numbers for 1967 and 1968.

The 2520 started with the 1969 model year at 17000.

According to my book, there were only about 900 produced in 1971-2 and 1972-3, so probably not many more during '73 which was the last model year. A total run of around 15,000 were built. As far as I'm concerned, it is the handiest tractor I have on the place. Mine is a '69 model, and has been a great tractor. While it is my smallest now, it has been a mainstay around here for 42 years. At one time, it was my main tractor. While it is in a utility role now, it gets as many or more hours on it than any tractor on the place other than my loader tractor.

Evidently good demand for 72 2520s as it sold right away from that classified ad and had a large number of inquries.First person bought it.I am not very computer friendly when it comes to photos but if my daughter stops by I will see what I can do.I still type with one finger and dont text so I am a little behind the younger generation. But NewGeneration are still my favorite tractors.

Larry, I am no help on the 1973 question, but is this the 2520 you had for sale in the ad's? If so would you ever post some pictures of it, I would love to see it! Thanks.
