Having issues with my 3 point hydraulics. Had a leak on a fitting a couple weeks ago. Fixed it and topped it off with some universal fluid. Now it only works for 10 mins or so. After that the steering is hard and the 3 point won"t lift up. Let it cool down for 30 mins or so and it works good for another 10 mins or so. I just changed the fluid and filter last summer. Any ideas?

DUH I'm aware of that. That is the very reason I posted the question "were any NEW JD tractors sold in Canada that were built for European sales??" because to my knowledge none were sold NEW in the USA at least in Texas.

Jim you have to get out of Texas. It's just one little corner in
the whole world.

An 830 built for N American sales will not have a AR103034 closed-center hyd pump

What is the difference in open and closed center?

I always preferred Hy-Gard oil in JD hyd systems especially with wet brakes & clutches. To repair hyd problem it is very important to inspect/clean sump screen

JD tractors open center used gear pumps and the pumps pumped oil continuously and control valves just divert the oil to whichever function one wants to operate.

Closed center utilized piston pumps that build up pressure to a set pressure(2250 psi factory setting) and stroke control valve causes crankcase pressure inside pump to exceed the piston spring pressure and push pistons away from the rotating pump shaft causing pump to stop pumping until pressure in crankcase falls below 2250 psi at which time pump starts pumping again. The control valves block pressure at each valve until the valve is operated hence the name closed center.

This is a photo of the open center pumps. Parts key #1 is manual steering tractor and parts key #10 is power steering .

To my knowledge no 830/930 utility tractors were ever built in Dubuque,Ia.but instead in Mannheim. As I previously stated I've never seen a 830 with closed-center hyd's all were open center.

I have never seen a 830 3cyl in Texas built for European sales only the ones built for North American sales which are ALL open center hyd's.

You did not use High-Gard? There is a long line of bargain minded people who have damaged trans/hydraulic system with the wrong oil.
Is it an early open center system or late closed center system?

Jeff

It's possible that the oil you added is causing the hyd oil to foam. I would recommend you change the hyd filter and clean the trans sump screen on your 3 cylinder 830 as that's about the cheapest/easiest place to start diagnostics.

It sounds very well like that may be the problem.
I can't get the screen out, but I will change the
filter and the fluid. Any recommendations on what
fluid to use? I used some glass universal fluid
last time. I just topped it off with some tsc
universal I had.
What is the difference in open and closed center?

Work at that screen until it comes out. It's either crudded up and/or going to pieces. A new screen is reasonable in price.
