Hi, guys. I just rebuilt the carburetor on my 1955 Model 70 tractor, a tractor that was already running well. I rebuilt it because the old float needle would occasionally fail to stop the fuel flow, flooding the engine.
The instructions with the rebuild kit were very poor. Can anyone tell me how to set up the ideal fuel level? My preferred method is to hook up a length of clear fuel line so I can see the actual fuel level, then drop the bowl to adjust the float. All advice welcome! Thanks, Paul |

| Wow, that sure seems high. OK, I'll get out there and just do it. Thanks! Paul |

| Earl-IL, thanks! I do have all the necessary manuals with info on setting up the carb (a bit sketchy though) but I was mostly curious as to EXACTLY where the fuel level sits in the bowl. Too high and flooding results. I'm having a lot of trouble lowering the level to what I think is a reasonable level, say at least 1/2 inch below the bottom surface of the carb casting. Maybe the float arm has been bent and rebent too many time by the previous owners.
Anyway, I installed a drain valve in place of the drain plug. Pop on a piece of clear plastic line, open the valve and there's the fuel level. The best test of all, in my opinion. |

| Paul, I believe the fuel level is to be set at the bowl gasket surface on a Duplex carburetor. The 3/4" float setting should give you this. Mike |

| Paul, Carb. upside down 3/4 in from the BTM. of float to the BTM of the machined groove in carb body. As per JD carb manual. |
