Are there any recomendations of what to look for in selecting a replacement steering wheel for my 4020? I see there is a wide range of prices from the varios parts suppliers. Is there any benifit to going with one from John Deere? (I assume they get them from a thrid party as well). Any thoughts would appreciated.

I have a really nice one from a combine. This would be correct for 4010-4020 untill 1968. I would sell it.

T&D restorations have 'refurbished' original ones. They feel superb in the hand, far better than the new 3rd party ones. Of course they come at a price!

Steering wheels and center caps have to be ordered separately but yes the old style center cap(part #s R34324, R45792, R47998 OR AL118173) has been substituted for the later style(part # AL155227) and appears to be used on all JD tractors from '61-'72

Are there different part numbers for early vs late 4020 steering wheels?
My 2520 has a different steering wheel than my early 4020. Based on that, my assumption has been that the early ones had a flat steering wheel, and the later(side console) had a slightly dished one.

I am not 100% sure, but I think the new steering wheels for the New Generation tractors from Deere have the new style Deere logo on them, not the original like they came with. My friend put one on his 4320 from Deere, where he works, and he said that's how they come from Deere now. It looks nice, and feels and looks just like the original just with the new style deer on it is all.
