About a yr ago i got a 41 A. I got it running when i first got it
but there was a lot of gas in the oil... i took the carb off and
drained the oil. This week i rebuilt the carb and changed the
oil and got it running again. If i open the petcock on the left
hand cylinder its pretty much pumping oil out...what could this
be? I understand a problem with the rings would allow it to
burn oil but this is a lot of oil!...could a head gasket or
possible cracked head cause this issue? Thoughts?

Well the book i have(it service manual) called for 9.25 qts so if it really holds 7... Maybe i am overfilling the crankcase... Is there anyway to check the level?...i just rebuilt the carb so i left the air cleaner pipe off because i still need to install the choke shaft(i broke a bolt off in the old one and am in the process of building a new one)...i messed with it some today and noticed upon removing the plugs that they both look the same and have good spark... I took the valve cover off and didnt see anything out of line there other than a brocken off lock nut on the intake valve adjustment on the right hand cylinder...i have a lot of orange paint around here and this is my first 2 cylinder... I have a basic understanding of them but im not an expert

How's the oil level and cond. Now?
I'd not worry too much about what comes out the petcocks. Run it and see if it oil comes out the stack or if the plugs get oil fouled.

The oil level is still full just by opening the port on the side...its still fairly new appearing but smells of gas. Im not sure if its firing much on that cylinder because when I open the petcock it doesnt change the sound at all. And if i take the plug out it will be completely coated with oil. It is weird that its not blowing any oil out the stack.

You are not over filling the crank case are you? You know it holds about 7 quarts. When the petcock is open, there will be a sound of air rushing out the the petcock and any liquid too that is in the cylinder. When the petcock is open and the engine is running, there will be a definite loud spit out the petcock when the cylinder on that side fires. When the cylinder in question misses sometimes and the petcock is open you will hear "hiss hiss hiss" "SPIT SPIT" You might also try loosening the intake pipe on the front of the carb and dropping it down out of the way. That will rule out the breather being clogged or overfilled with oil. Get back with us on this. I'd like to hear what is causing your problem.

PS... With the engine running i can open the petcock on the left hand cylinder and hold my hand under it and it will cover my hand with oil in about 5 seconds

I think when the engine is running and a cylinder is not firing, It will automatically suck oil up into that cylinder
