Just got my dads old jd bike out of the shed and realized I don't know anything about them. The bike needs a good cleaning & its all original, but it looks like its condition is slipping fast. What's the best thing to do? Should I clean it & leave it the way it is, or try to fix it. Also do these bikes have any value. |

Not to burst bubbles, just sayin', but these JD bikes were made for JD in Taiwan before the folks there learned about quality. The fasteners are notoriously soft.

They do have a little value.. anywhere from $50 to $150 is what I have seen them go for.

I would use some chrome polish and extra fine steel wool to clean up the wheels it will remove the rust. I would wash the bike and use a cleaner polish on the paint.

The bike looks good.I wouldnt repaint it because its original. The wheels looks in good shape with light rust. The good thing its been in a shed out of the sun and rain.I have a bike put up in the attic i have had since the early 80s.If i was you i would wipe the whole thing with wd 40 to clean it and spray it down again if you were going to store it again.Other than that i would maybe put some new tires and tubes on it. I dont know the value but because it was your dads it worth alot more to you than you could sell it. I would keep it because like thay say its not eating nothin.

I see a steel three piece crank set, socket light weight alloy frame and an old tech three speed hub, a wide butt saddle. Probably 26 inch clincher tires. A thick rubber pedal. This is old school, probably early to mid 70's
