I"ve got a gas 2510 that seems to run hot. factory gauge always ran in or near hot so i hooked up an automotive temp gauge to see actual temp. runs under load(bush hogging) at around 200. it seems to be better if it is revving up. idle it gets hotter. has a new 180 thermostat. radiator is clear on outside and was flushed inside. is 200 ok on an 80 degree day. if impeller on water pump is worn could that cause low flow which requires high rpm to gain flow? tractor does not seem to lose power just runs higher temp than i expected. thanks andy

It probably has a 190 thermostat in it so like David said that's probably not extremely high running temp, and like B&D said worn pulleys can be a problem, I see a lot of that come through here,,as for the impeller they rarely actually 'wear' out, "But" Deere did offer a plastic impeller for that water pump that would chip away to nothing and cause a lot of problems with poor flow, the only way to check that is to pull the pump, and at that point go through it, making sure that you put a steel impeller back on, and while your in that area look at the pulleys close, you can rub your finger tips into the V's and feel the wear,,you will be surprised at the amount of wear....when the V wears the belt runs in too deep and you loose the belt to pulley contact, this really shows up on big engines with large fans, I include pulleys in O/H's, along with radiator flush and flow checks...it puts more integrity in the O/H....

thanks for the responces. belt dressing would probably be just a bandaid at this point. i'll look into the pump and pulley. thanks again

I really do not think you have a problem worth fixing. If it runs that hot in the winter, then yes.

Years ago old early 70"s Ford pickups oil gauge showed "low" pressure, even though it was in a medium range,,to correct this problem ford changed the gauge to read "normal" in a much wider range, and every one was okay with it,,,so if your temp gauge would read 200 in the middle of the gauge, in stead of near the top,,you would feel better about it,,as David said you probably don"t have a real problem ,,it just appears that way...but it never hurts to be cautious...

Just fine with 50/50 antifreeze, distilled water and a pressure cap.
Any trace amounts of oil or grease in the coolant dramatically reduces heat transfer.
Odds are however with the age and hours. The fan/waterpump pulley and generator pulleys are worn from dust and a loose belt. Just eyeballing the pulleys won't indicate wear either.
Over tightening the belt may reduce slippage BUT the generator gearing and water pump bearings will soon require replacement.

I would think that would be normal, but am not an expert on that tractor.
