4020 Diesel Pump

The pump on the 4020 was overhauled by local shop 3 years ago, so it probably has 300 hours on it since then. It had the bad governor ring issue and would not start when hot. The tractor is getting the hot start problem back again.

Ideas?

Hard hot starting is usually the pumps inability to pump sufficient fuel from heat. Bad governor ring usually means rpm's fluctuate and are difficult to control. If it's truly inj pump related hard hot starting try pouring cool water on the ""non-turning inj pump"" and then see if engine will start. Also could be hyd related. Rapidly turn steering wheel from side to side while trying to start engine. If that helps you can install a $15 destroking screw in hyd pump

Could be low transfer pump pressure, try turning it up a tad, ( remove the fuel line and using an allen wrench maybe 1/4 turn to right ).

How are the injectors? If you cracked the injectors, does it pump? Is the fuel tank vent plugged? What exactly is it doing? Does it want to start or does it just crank and crank? Any smoke?

A pump's head just doesn't go bad, sorry.

That is called a transfer pump assembly. Not the head. The head is what all the banjo bolts or discharge fittings(newer pumps) screw into.

Three hundred hours since an overhaul and the TP blades are worn out, doubt it....we run them for thousand of hours, around the clock at rated speeds and they don't wear out that fast.

Like I said before, unless the H&R are seized, head don't "good bad". It is a basically a chuck of steel with a lot machining in it.
