A few days ago I posted the first pic of my grandpa on a john deere b. I have since found a pic of my great grandpa on the same tractor. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify the year of this tractor. I know it is between 39 and 46. Any and all help would be great. Thanks.

I figured I would throw .02 more in the pot...

from the look of it, it's definitely not a '39 - '40 based on the flywheel and muffler. Also it has a Wico C on it and it kinda looks as though the exhaust manifold is at the 3 and 9 position so with that I would say you have a '41. Now the muffler and magneto could have been changed at one time or another, but thats what I would guess based on the evidence at hand.

Two priceless photos of you grandpa and great grandpa on the John Deere Model B.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

It is not a 39 or 40 by looking at the gas caps.

Here's "Uncle Earl" our 39B; notice the gas caps being closer.

Photobucket

The type of muffler is also different.

Here's a photo of "John B" our 43B; notice the spacing on the gas caps is the same as in your photos.

The muffler style also matches your photos.

My guess would be a "wartime" B.

I will give you my 2 cents. No cast frame or pressure cooling that the 43-44 B's had. I have never seen, doesn't mean it is carved in stone, but I have never seen any 45 and newer B's with cut off front steel. I will guess it is a 41-42 B.

I know its at least between 41-46 based on the fuel tank fill caps. I cant really tell from the pic but it almost looks like it has the early rubber bushing fan drive w/out a pulley??? Im not sure exactly when they went to the friction disc without looking in the parts Book.....

It's at least a '41 with the large flywheel and the tall muffler. I can tell it does not have the pressure cooling system and it appears it does not have the cast frame. Mike

Also, the style of lettering on the hood tells it is later than '41 as well. Mike

Its 44-46 . Electric start, pressed wheels. I know its not a 39-43. As those were handstart. Others will chime in too.
