Have 4020 with original 24V system. Has original cables except two end have been upgraded to heavy lead ends. Use the long 12v style batteries. The negative post on the battery that has positve ground melts. Previous owner had same issues with melting negative post. What am I missing?

Batteries are mounted externally to side of frame rail of engine. I have good cables and keep them clean.

If by meaning upgraded ends you mean replaced ends only it might be your cables. Those aftermarket ends cause more problems than batteries. The 12 volt setup is worth the investment.

Not alone on this problem. Id say a fair bit of us still runnin 24v have ran across this problem. Usually its either a bad or loose connection or the cable end not sitting all the way down on the post will get you too. You wont like the price of replacing the cables from deere tho. there around 200 bucks for the set. I kno some guys make up there own cables but I didnt have a lot of luck with that myself. Also check and make sure your starter is disengaing all the way and that there is not any dust or corrosion in your starter fields creating a short. most likly tho you have a battery cable issue.

Our 4020 gas had a slow drain and turned out the little felt corrosion preventers dad put on there touched the platform when closed and drained it.
