We are repairing our fire-damaged '68 4020. I have found the wiring harness after-market, but was wondering what the quality was compared to Deere's. Is Deere's wiring harness the best one to get?

The Deere harness that I have used in the past were "not" good, you needed to change the ends to make them match the connectors, I have a 3020 here now that the owner started to change himself with a Deere set, same thing, they don't match up right, there were a few changes in production of them and that probably adds to the mix-up...

Thank you for your reply. I will be replacing everything on it. The aftermarket ones had a note on them that they could not get the same connectors as the factory ones, but could reuse the old ones. Do you think the Deere harness will be okay if I replace all the wiring? Also, are there any updates that need to be installed to protect the wiring system? It is still 24 volt.

No I don't think the Deere kit will work out well, and unless your trying to keep it "original" I would not continue with the 24 volt system. Deere had some safty features for the 24 volt, but they don't work well, A 12 volt conversion and the aftermarket wireing would be your best bet, I make up my own harness here and use a delco 10si alternator and a good 12 volt starter, re-use the two 12 volt batterys and I normaly replace the light switch, only because they are usualy fried by now. The correct fuel sender and gauge will make that all work out too.

What are some sources for the after market harnesses and do they make the harnesses for the lights how do the prices compare to deeres
