4020 HEATER

I have a '71 4020 diesel with an aftermarket cab. The heat has never worked well. The heater hoses are connected to the cylinder block on the right side (where a pipe plug was removed) of the engine and to a threaded hole in the water outlet manifold on the left side of the engine. Is there a better place to connect the hoses that will provide better heat. I have heard some say there heaters will run them out of the cab, but this one surely doesn't. seems like it doesn't get good circulation with these connections.

Discharge hot coolant to the cab from just below the stats. Return cab coolant to the water pump inlet.
Somebody with no clue plumbed your tractor without enough delta P.

There is a plug on the left side of the water pump I installed last year. Original pump did not have that plug. Is this a water pump inlet? Hot coolant to the cab would come from the water outlet manifold where it is currently connected then? ie. both hoses connect to left side of engine?

The hot outlet connection may well be correct. If that pump plug is to the suction side of the pump. Connect the return line from the cab and enjoy winter warmth.
When you have everything torn apart and drained. This is the time to install a block heater if isn't one there already.
