Hello to all John Deere experts. I have a need for some quick information to help me make a decision and thought some of you may be kind enough to help.

I have run across a 1941 JD “B” and I have checked the serial number to determine that. The current owner thinks it is a 1939 but never mind that.

It is claimed to have been kept inside all of its long life and still has the original rear rubber on flat spoked wheels. Don’t know if they are cut offs. It has the cast iron frame up front and it has a padded seat on the normal seat pedestal instead of the normal steel seat. It is hand start and does start and run. The radiator has anti freeze and holds water. It is claimed to have very good sheet metal. I hope to get a picture tomorrow and will have to make a buy / no buy decision at that time.

Were aftermarket padded seats with a back rest made for this tractor? I think I saw something like that once somewhere.

Did any come with spoked wheels in 1941?

If it is authentic then what might the value range be?

It there anything else peculiar about this year of tractor?

I have done some quick internet research but as is the case sometimes I have to make a quick decision and input for those who have the time would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance … Norm43

Those are cut-off wheels, meaning it came out on steel and was converted to rubber. The B decal should be on the seat channel and not the grille. It should read "Model B" running downhill readable from the clutch pulley side of tractor. Doesn't look like a repaint. Someone probably had the B decal and made it look like the newer ones.

Thats a pretty original looking tractor or at least and old repaint. As one person said the decals on the hood and grill sides are not original, but the one on the back of the rear axle cover is an original style. In my opinion, if you were to get it, I wouldnt repaint, just keep it original looking. Might try to get the incorrect decals off with a scotchbrite pad or steel wool.

The muffler has been changed, along with the seat, and the added shock absorber.

What is he asking?

Know more about A's than I do B's but also have some knowledge about wheels, particularly unusual ones. If the wheels are cutoffs it's obvious and easy to see even in a photo, they're welded to the rim. I they are flat spoke with twelve spokes that are "upset" through the rim and have a one piece cast center with the splines in the casting and use a ring to clamp tight they are from a 39 B or conversion series that was produced in early 41 and both are 36" they are pretty scarce. If they have the removeable center hub and 16 flat spokes they are a universal replacement wheel that came out in 45. Don't know what current values are but the twelve spoke type with the cast in place centers (39 and 41) are probably worth more than the tractor itself. Grab them if you can.

Depending on where you are, it could be worth anywhere from $1200.00 to about $1800.00.

Keep the seat and try to find an ad that tells who made it and what the back rest looks like. I had a 41 "B" ser# 104581 that had the shock absorber added on but used the steel bucket seat that came with the tractor. Monroe made a complete seat bracket that bolted to the deck and rode better than the factory seat that John Deere made. Monroe made that seat to fit all American tractors of that time.
