4020 3 pt hitch

I am looking at a 4020 to buy. The 3 point hitch will pick up a 5X6 roll of hay but I am not sure it is picking it up as high as it should. How high should the 4020 raise the hay? Also, I put a gauge into the scv and it read a steady 2200 psi on both scv's. And, when the 4020 raises the hay it is comes up quick. Just not sure how high it should come. Any comments appreciated.

Raise the three point all the way up without the bale, then grab the ends of the bale fork and lift, if its not raising all the way you will be able to lift the fork and see the arms complete the travel. Or try changing the load and depth adjustment and see what happens. chris

Or, I wonder if the seller has the manual you could look at.

Hard to have the manual if you don't own the tractor yet!

There's a lever set up next to the trans dipstick just below the seat which can be moved up or down for Load, Load/depth, or Depth response. Try moving it to Depth.

When fully raised, the rockshaft arms should be nearly straight up, but most don't quite make it that far. Also the adjustment on the lift links will make a difference on how high the draft links are off the ground. Shorten the lift links and the draft links will be higher, but will also not lower as much either. Good luck.

That's a lever on the front of the seat pedestal. Has three positions.

But the lift height is set by the control linkage or cable, depending whether its side console or pre side console. Getting the control valve position set is part of replacing the cable in the early tractor, covered in the shop manual. If its an early 4020 with the lift control on the left side of the dash, the push pull cable rusting up is a cause of it not lifting all the way. One day it won't left at all. Then its time for a new cable and readjusting the lift range. Been there, done that. Cable runs about $90 new.

Behind your RH heel when sitting in the seat.
This view shows the lever in D or depth.
You can also see the transmission dip stick in the lower center right.

check the adjustment of the cable that goes from the lever to the valve there is 2 holes on the end of the cable that you can hook the valve lever under the seat, if its is a side counsel model you can adjust some linkages to make sure it raises all the way
