Yes they are any numbered tractor like the 70 to 730 narrow fronts are changeable with newer tractors like a 4010. Only the lettered trators cant be switched to a numbered tractor.

Bryan, You are close. All two cylinders will interchange totally while the new gens use larger hubs. All NF will bolt on any tractor but if going to a new gen to a two cylinder you should bring along the wheels to go with the front end. I think my A is the one Tim is referring to. It has a new gen mast but has two cylinder knuckles in order to be able to use my two cylinder hubs and wheels. Two cylinder hubs will not fit on new gen spindles. I tried it. The spindles are larger as is the hub and wheel centers. The easiest thing to do is to get the new front with the wheels unless you stay within your vintage. In short all two cylinder NF will interchange totally while New Gens will bolt up but the two cylinder wheels or hubs will not fit. This statement excludes differences between LD and HD ROMS.

Then your A was originaly a wide front to give you a place and bolt pattern to use a narrow front pedistal, I have never seen on like that up close but it did catch my eye in the pic, there are "very" few wide front letter tractors around here.

Re: 730 and 4010 narrow front question? in reply to Tim S, 11-19-2009 20:16:32

| | No, my A wasn"t a wide front. I actually added the split pedestal. Not all split pedestals were wide fronts. They could have been ROMS, wide fronts, fixed fronts or wide fronts. It seems as if most are found on wide fronts or single front wheels. It also seems as if a great number are found in vegetable country, although they are found randomly elsewhere. They were marketed for their ability to swap front ends for various tasks. |

How about some of these letter tractors I see with a removeable pedisal, I think they are ones that may have been factory wide fronts to start with, I have just noticed them lately and wondered about them, there was a pic of an A with one on here last week.

I have a single front wheel on my 630 that came off of a friend's 4020. Can't say for the 730. I put it on temporarily about 15 years ago. Had a bad bearing on my roll o matic, and it was quicker to change the whole assembly and go back to baling. Rides like a baby buggy - I ain't taking it off. Paul
