I'm REAL curious to see if someone can identify it.
I wonder what company's trademark the "G" cast into the part is? If someone would recognize that it would probably go a long way towards identifying the casting. |
NOPE.
I don't have a clue what it is. I was just pointing out that the seller admits to not knowing what it is, either. |

Re: Confused ebay seller... in reply to Bob, 11-15-2009 17:20:04

| I'm guessing the two aligning flanges (3rd frame) are about 4" apart. The direction of travel when in use was L to R in the first frame and R to L in the third frame. I am suggesting this is the mounting for a tongue for a horse drawn implement. The pins between the mounting holes I suspect are aligning pins. I suspect the screws no matter what size are a false lead, i.e. left over from its last, but secondary use. Four bolts and 2 aligning pins meant the tongue would be broken rather than the expensive casting (gearbox? ) to which this was fastened. I am suggesting a sided implement such as a mower. The last horse mower I looked at was in 1942, as my dad and the junk man beat one to death so they load it on the junk truck. He had bought and used a new # 5 John Deere mower to use with the tractor. |

| The possibilities are endless. I have a very limited experience with old implements, but looking at it makes me think threshing machine. Probably not, but that's what comes to mind. I hope someone can help him out. |

| I like that idea. Handedness disappears if the mirror image of the casting would show up. I'm thinking about a mounting between the threshing (cylinder)unit and the seprator (seives). |

| Well, to be fair, he DOES actually say that he doesn't know what it is and is open to ideas from "experts" on what it really is. |
