I am in the process of rebuilding a 3020 diesel engine. When I removed the timing cover, I found that sometime previously that the ventilator pump drive gear had been removed. What was JDs reason for installing this pump, and is it necessary? Should the gear be replaced Thanks for any Info. |

| Be sure the oil supply that went to the drive gear is plugged off, or else there will be a internal pressure leak that will rob the crankshaft supply. I do away with them when I can always wanted to find a big bore plug to seal the hole of and clean up the block. |

| Don't replace it. It is plumbed into the air cleaner and when the air cleaner got restricted, the engine pulled oil out of the vent pump. Make sure the line is also plugged off. I use a ball bearing under the flare nut. |
