My JD 2940 tractor won't start after settig overnight. The tractor was running just fine when I parked it. It wouldn't start the next day. What are some of the things I should look for? Roy

I got the tractor running. The return line check valve was stuck and the kill switch was out of adjustment. Thanks all of you for your suggestions. Roy

I wasn't talking about the throttle. It's the lever on the side of the injection pump which get pulled by the Shut-Off knob and cable. If the lever isn't fully at "home or run" she won't or will barely sputter.

Is the fuel shut off lever on the injection pump fully in the delivery/on position?

I have a 2940 also but im not much of a mechanic - was hoping the followup would get some response. I finally got around to using the search function on this site. If you search 2940 you will come up with about 600 posts and some of those will be re. starting/fuel if it was runing and cranks its allmost got to be fuel. You might try a search for say 2840 starting to shorten the search. - good luck post the fix when you get I may need it sometime.
