Just bought what I think is a KBY? harrow, (I"ll get pics later for a positive ID before I buy the op manual). My wife thinks I need to move it out of the front yard. The cylnder that came with it is holding pressure, (it is not quite off the ground and still has too much pressure on it to remove the cylinder), but I have no idea what kind of fluid is in it. I have 30wt oil in my 60. Will it hurt to hook it up and move it? I know there is always a chance that it might have some type of hydraulic fluid in it. Would lifting it once and releaseing it once mix enough fluid to do damage? Thanks

Just don't mix the oil with a tractor that uses hy-trans.

Thanks. Decided it was worth a little work to not take the chance.

Thanks for the advice. It did not have a travel strap, I brought home on a trailor. I'll try to jack it up to take the tension off and replace the cylinder with one of mine. Then I'll drain this one and hopefully be able to use it on an old bush hog. Thanks for the advice.

I think that it might already have a lift and lock strap on it. A transport strap.

If you have a jack and a piece of steel with a hole in each end, why not jack it up enough to take the pins out of the cylender and remove it,then jack it up a little more to a transport postion and put in the piece of steel. It can then be moved without the use of hydraulics. For safety make sure it is hooked up to something first!

GTK:

The Powr-Trol does not hold very much in its reservoir, and a 3"x8" cylinder cycled completely, in and then back out, could exchange 30 ounces or so into the Powr-Trol and then your 30 ounces or so back out. That said, if you hook it up only to extend the cylinder just a bit, you would only be pushing a bit of your oil up to the bottom of the cylinder, and a bit back via your return line from the top of the cylinder. And that should only be a few ounces. That small amount probably would not hurt anything, but you do run the risk of contaminating your P-Trol oil, and may have to flush and refill. Someday you will have to unscrew a hose end and drain that cylinder to find out what it is filled with. You could take the weight off of the disk with a jack, and unscrew one hose end now and find out. Those are your options I think.
