I cant figure out why, when the switch button on the starter is pressed ALL the way in, it does not connect/contact the post on the starter.

I changed the switch and still having problems. The foot push goes all the way down but I have to stand on it and wiggle it with my foot to MAYBE get starter to turn over.
The switch copper bar doesnt appear to be sticking, it just looks like it should maybe go further down. I dont know.

Id like to know if anyone else has had this problem. Is it the switch? Is the stud on the starter worn too much? Any remedies for this? I have been messing around with this problem for a quite a while now, and just cant figure it out.

seems like to me that you can spin the piece of copper up in the sheet metal housing 180 degrees and use the new side to make better contactr. it does look like your nub is short and you can adjust the linkage as the other poster suggested. you might want to replace parts but this will probably get you by for a long time.

had the same trouble. by the photo its my opinion the lug on your starter is too worn. have it replaced & use a new switch to mate with it. that will solve your issue. i took my starter apart then had the new lug installed for $8.00 at the local hutterite colony. im not good enough at soldering heavy stuff to tackle it myself. not the right tools for the job. swithces are available all over including deere for around ten bucks.

Late models:
The foot pedal is on a threaded rod. Its probably needing extended about 2 turns and the lock nut tightned back to lock in place. Its simply a tad bit too short.
