Was the 2840 the only tractor that had problems with the steering and hydraulics ? Did the later models like the 2950 have the same trouble ? Would like to get a 60-80 hp utility but dont need the steering leaking into the clutch housing like the 2840 I had. What about the 2440 and 2640 are they the same system ? |

2840's gave hyd & hard starting problems early on. I'm unaware of any major steering problems on a 2840. IMHO 2940 & 2950's are more reliable than 2840's and later models also have hydrostatic power steering. The steering on 2440 & 2640 is similar to a 2840. You could consider a 4030 or 4040 also. |

| Some folk seem to think they are nothing but trouble but those units have good service around here. Of course there are the operators that contaminate the hy-trans with dirt, moisture or the wrong oil. Then proceed to operate the tractor without ever servicing the screen or filter. They continue even when the brakes chatter or grab along with hydraulic noises and vibrations. Finally when the system is full of floating friction material and clutch metal. With the filters plugged and by-pass/relief/divert valves chattering or sticking. The owners wail and cry "crummy hydraulics". |
