I have an older version of the JD STX 38 and it was mowing just fine. Today I went to turn it on and the mower blades will not engage. I changed the switch but that did not do it. When I flip the switch, there is a slight power draw on the engine but it does not turn the blades. Turned the unit over and the blades turn with my assistance - both pulleys have belts attached - what am I missing? |

| I am assuming you have an electric clutch as per my 111. When it it was warm from use you had to be at 1/2 throttle or above for it to engage. I tightened the free space to specs and it engages at lower throttle settings. My 318 is starting to be have the same way. |

| I got fooled by a problem like this once & it turned out to be a bad battery, which was soaking up all the current the charging system could put out. If that's not the problem, check the clutch coil by unplugging it & see if there is continuity through the 2 wires. |
