4020 D Lost power will not run

What did I do? Put in a small amount of diesel conditioner (10 oz) and a quart of 10W-40 into the fuel tank that was one half full.

Went to field (15 minutes) and tractor lost power gradually and just made it back to shop. Will not run now except on ether.

Has older round fuel sight glasses. Drained bottom and repumped full to top. Still will not run. Did not bleed injectors. Ran fine yesterday and did not add any fuel today.

Prior was slow to stop when the key was turned off, but did not have problem last few days.

The oil probably did not mix well and sank to the bottom of the tank, then got suckrd into the filters right away, which pluged the fuel filters, is my guess, change the filters and try it again, setting a bit might have let the oil mix..

Roger, has your tractor sat idle long? If so, it may have developed some bacteria in the tank and the conditioner you used and the possibility of having some soydiesel in your fuel might have jarred loose this bacteria and plugged your filters. I would try some new filters (and buy another set, too) and see if that helps. Mike

Guys the 4020 has a stand pipe in the tank if the oil went to the bottom it would not be able to get in the lines crap in filters change them and then order the filter kit to changes to the square glass roosa filter ,one filter but twice a good as you old filter set up

Take the fuel return line off the fuel pump and look for little pieces of rubber pluging the line. You may have to pull the elbo out of the pump to get the stuff out. The rubber is the governor weight return spring coming apart. If you find this stuff you need to rebuild the pump, it will work for a while when you clean it out but not for long. You may need to clean the entire return line.

Yes it does have a stand pipe , but I was trying to relate the engine stoping and the oil charge happening at the same time, but you never want to discount the chance of more than one thing happening at the same time, it can lead you down the wrong path...

Tim i would agree but i have found most of the time start with the simple things frist in this case fuel filters and work from there Kent

Tim S,
I normally agree with all your answers but I think a quart of engine oil will not cause a fuel filter to plug. When I change a canister type fuel filter I fill it with oil and crank engine and in fact I think it's good lube for the Inj pump. I know truckers(not me) down here that pour their drained engine oil into fuel tanks with no fuel filter plugging. On the other hand water or algae will plug a filter quickly.

in summer i mix filtered used oil with diesel.3 gal fuel one gal oil. i run it in all my tractors and trucks never caused problems.
