4020 Gas Powershift

That data is in the Production Log from the Two Cylinder Club.
If it"s a side console gasser PS. Guard it from the drooling hacks who want to jam a diesel combine engine in there.

there sure isnt to many around and for good reason. First problem is the gas engine.then mate that to a 25 hp robbing powershift trans. tractor can barely pull its self around.

25HP is all B.S. Go to nebraska tractor test site and not 1 of the powershift tractors took 25 hp. Where do you know it alls get this B. S.

Nebraska test no.[ 939 Gas syncro 95.6 hp pto drawbar 83hp] Test no [1012 gas powershift 95.7 pto drawbar 82.6 ] Test 1024 [diesel powershift 95.8 pto drawbar 83.1] I myself don't like gas tractors but a lot of people do I do have 3 syncro tractors and a powershift The only time you can notice the power loss is when shifting as you don't stop to shift when shift is complete there is no difference That you can tell when those pumps destroke after the shift they take no more power then a syncro. most don't think about it but wehn you shift a syncro you either stop or push the clutch in and lose your mometum so I would say any tractor would take extra power to shift .

All right know it all maybe You should hook them drawbar to drawbar and see witch one has more pull.Or just ask some people that actually know something before u open your mouth. And if they were so good and have so much power why didnt deere make just as many as the diesel synchros.

One more thing your diesel models must be poor runners if your gasser has as much power. You know so much about everything why dont u fix up your diesel models so you dont give them all a bad name. and another thing they may have about the same hp but do u really think the gasser has as much torque? I think not.

Let start this tractor pull out in the sticks - 25 below zero and no electricity. Men start your engines. Oh crap the Diesels dead. There are more reasons to buy a tractor than what fuel it uses. Then there are darn good reason to buy a tractor for it's fuel. Diesel isn't 8 cents a gallon and gas isn't 15 cents. On my remote farm the tractor has to be gas in the winter time. I like diesel in the summer time for the economy.

The nebraska test is what I quoted for hp ratings of the tractors tested .Part of the reason there wasn't as many powershift tractors sold was the price differance . I have been running these tractors and working on them since they come out and when cared for the powershift is and was just as durable as the syncro If the powershift trans. was so bad why are there so many 50series and later that are powershift same basic trans. as the 8 speed .

Are you saying that the test data is not right ? I have run a gas tractor and a diesel both when new and with alot of hours The gas tractor has a load jet that needs to be adjusted for heavy loads and again for light loads so you don't foul plugs If you don't adjust for heavy loads they can be a lot less power . As far as the powershift tractor having less power then the syncro It was never 25 hp .

I am not going to argue with you MwJ it sounds to me like you pretty much know everything anyway. But why did deere quit with the gassers anyway. I am sur you will have a good answer.

They quit because they did not sell enough they did not last as long poor economy. They burned at least a third more fuel to do the same work. The part That I did not agree with you on is the powershift useing 25 extra HP. But all test did show the gas did have as much power . The 1965 gas only had 340 cubic in. engine and then the went to a 362 cubic in. engine so for there size they produced more power then what deere had then diesel set for . I said I don't like the gas but some people do . and that is there choice.

The gas engine in 4020 is less displacement than diesel. As far as a power shift they do not take anymore power than a synro-range.The engine pulls down on one shift because the clutch pack starts to spin after it gets up to speed you do not notice it.The power shift transmission is almost bullet proof.JD used them in 760A earthmovers, motor graders and farm tractors
