You have the 9" cut model, made as a #272 in 7" cut. Both are belt drive.Used a #270 chain drive unit, used it for years, and it was great for grass hay,but they do pull hard. Like to have a dollar for every acre it cut,and very little spent on parts. Bit of a trick to sharpen the flails though.

New Idea, drop the l and you will have a corect name. New Ideal was a horse drawn mower from the late 1800 to early 1900 period and later became a part of International Harvestor.

You're right. I was thinking of the 270.

I'd say more like 60's-70's. Same vintage as the 290 mowditioner. My dad grew up with one of those. He was born in 56.

I have a brochure dated 1982 with the 272 7' and 279 9' in it. That's the last year I've seen Cut/Ditioners listed. I don't know when the 9' came out but the 272 7' is listed in a 1965 brochure. The 270 came before it.

I've seen several of them for sale in my area recently. None of the asking prices were over $1K, most in the $500-750.00 range. What they actually sold for I don't know. Last one I saw at auction went for about $50.00, and it was in decent shape.

New Idea. Not sure on year but they made them for somethinglike 15 years in the 70s into the early 80s. It will mow anything but it leaves a ragged cut and takes a lot of HP. I ran one with 3 different tractors. 120 HP just fine. 90 would do it most of the time. 75 HP was not enough.

There's been a revival of them for cutting cornstalks to bale.
