They did have trouble around the sickle gear case but that usually was from the owner running a dull sickle or a bad sickle head. Five years ago I would have said that $2000 was way too high a price. Now that is about market for one if it is usable. The cost of new is sky high so usable older equipment is selling higher. [Reply]  [No Email]

I paid $2200 for mine from a local small time used equipment dealer. I felt it was a bit high but came from a trustworthy source that I know goes through them well. I've had very little problems and no complaints. Parts availability seems ok from what I've found on normal wear parts. The area around my gear box has been welded indicating the type of wear mentioned in other posts here. I think price is regional. Around here anything smaller than 14 feet and less than 15 years old is becoming rare and us smaller guys are paying more to compete with each other for desirable small equipment. [Reply]  [No Email]

Same machine, but a little newer, maybe some updates. Decent machine, but ours developed cracks in the frame around the gearbox. Check that area out pretty close. We replaced it with a MacDon with meshing steel rolls - drys hay a lot faster than Hesston's non-meshing rolls. Remember that you're looking at a 30+/- year old machine...check parts availability.
