Could extra cold weather have anything to do with the pto not turning off. |

| If it only does this during cold weather I wouldn't worry about it. They can do that. It should stop once the oil warms up tho. If it doesn't stop... then it oculd be an issue with the brake piston or more likely that the brake shoe has lost it's lining. That's the kind of repair that is most often left until there's another reason to go rooting around in th eback end or the transmission is removed.Rod |

| My 4600 does the same when it's cold. It will stop once the oil warms up, either from use or when warmer weather gets here. The brake on them never was real strong... |

| Take a 2X4 and wedge it against the 3 point linkage to try stopping the pto from turning. If it stops easily that way it is probably just a combination of cold oil and the pto brake getting worn. In which case I wouldn't worry about it. If you can't stop it with a 2X4 then you have other problems and will need to diagnose further. |

| | I'm not familiar with a 4600 exactly, but many Ford pto's use hyd pressure to on/off the pto clutch, as well as a brake for the pto. As they get old, the pressure on that system gets light, and the pto will spin, the brake gets too light. Letting it do so wrecks the brake completely, but most folks do, until the pressure doesn't build up enough to engage it any more, then a total rebuild. A real Ford mechanic likely can be much more accurate than my cliff note explination. --->Paul |
